Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between self-perceived quality of life and oral health among older adults residing in various nursing homes in Lima during 2023. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample consisted of 184 older adults, who were administered the OHIP-14sp instrument to assess quality of life related to oral health. The results showed that 9.8% of the participants had a low quality of life, 23.4% had a fair quality of life, and 66.8% had an excellent quality of life. Furthermore, it was observed that women reported a better perception of their quality of life compared to men, and that this perception tends to decline with increasing age. Most participants did not report significant limitations in their daily activities. It is concluded that oral health influences older adults’ self-perception of quality of life, with evidence showing that its deterioration negatively impacts their overall well-being.
