Abstract

Multiple myeloma is a hematological neoplasm characterized by the clonal proliferation of plasma cells in the bone marrow, accompanied by the production of monoclonal immunoglobulins and systemic manifestations. Its diagnosis and management are based on clinical criteria, which are complemented by molecular and cytogenetic studies that enable a more precise prognostic stratification. Despite therapeutic advancements, it remains an incurable disease due to its marked clinical and biological heterogeneity, which dictates variable treatment responses.

This paper presents the case of a female patient diagnosed with multiple myeloma in whom a mosaic chromosomal aberration was identified, comprising two cell lines: one with monosomy X (45,X) and another normal diploid line (46,XX), derived from tumor culture. This finding involving the sex chromosomes in a patient with multiple myeloma represents a rare event of clinical-genetic interest, and highlights the importance of conventional cytogenetic analysis in the comprehensive evaluation of the disease, particularly for detecting chromosomal alterations that may be associated with increased genomic instability and clonal heterogeneity.
