Abstract

This systematic review investigated how wastewater from the dairy industry impacts microalgae production, looking to see if it could contribute to increasing biomass and reducing environmental pollution from these landfi lls. Studies published between 2018 and 2024 in Scielo and Scopus were analyzed, selecting 12 relevant publications for the analysis. It was found that microalgae can effectively take advantage of the nutrients present in dairy effl uents, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and organic matter, being used for their growth. Optimizing culture conditions, including pH, temperature, and lighting, as well as choosing suitable culture systems, such as ponds and photobioreactors, are essential factors. In terms of costs and effi ciency, the advantages and disadvantages of the systems to be used must be considered. In conclusión, the use of dairy waste can favor the increase in microalgae biomass, which helps mitigate pollution, offering various biotechnological opportunities.
