Abstract

The objective was to compare the compressive and flexural strength of Filtek Bulk Fill and Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill composite resins with Filtek Z350 XT and Tetric N-Ceram nanocomposite resins activated with LED light. Specimens were made for compressive strength according to ISO 3597-3 and for flexural strength according to ISO 4049; an LED B Stylo Woodpecker Lamp was used, with output optical wavelength: 420-480nm, output light intensity: 1200-1500mw/cm2; the tests were done with a LG Digital Universal Testing Machine, Model CMT-5L, Series 7419. It was found that, the compressive strength Filtek Bulk Fill presented 219.98 Mpa, Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill, 192.89 Mpa, Filtek Z350 XT, 262.07 Mpa and Tetric N-Ceram, 228.01 Mpa. In flexural strength, Tetric N-Ceram Bulk Fill presented 139.92 Mpa, Filtek Bulk Fill, 93.71 Mpa, Filtek Z350 XT, 130.13 Mpa and Tetric N-Ceram, 97.64 Mpa. It was analyzed with ANOVA of one factor and Tukey's test (p≤0.05). Significant differences were found between them, but they all comply with the established safety parameters. The use of Bulk fill resins in children is recommended because, by allowing increments of up to 4mm, it would help us to reduce operative times.
