Resumen

El objetivo del estudio fue describir la necesidad social de protocolos ambientales con peces como biomonitores de metales pesados en ecotoxicología acuática. Se considera que las normas reguladoras de la contaminación ambiental no permiten analizar los efectos de los metales pesados sobre la biota acuática. Ante esta limitación, se reconoce que algunos organismos como los peces se utilizan en su condición de biomonitor, pues contribuyen a evaluar los daños antropogénicos generados en el ecosistema acuático. A pesar, de las ventajas de los biomonitores, todavía las normas de regulación no consideran patrones comparativos del potencial de bioacumulación de metales pesados en los peces como organismo biomonitor. Todo biomonitoreo con peces al ser un sistema con base científica permitirá la vigilancia ambiental para conservar la sostenibilidad de los ecosistemas acuáticos.
